Description |
This is the second tube made by H. W. McCandless and Company for the de Forest Radio Telephone and Telegraph company. It had a tubular (T8 - 25 mm diameter) tubular bulb and was single ended. It was fitted with an E12 Edison screw base for the carbon filament. It had two platinum "wings" (or plates) connected in parallel and had a common 'lead-in" wire on the side of the bulb for these. An external electrostatic control was connected to this and the antenna. A patent was applied for and granted on this tube. de Forest presented this tube (and an electromagnetic one) in a paper he read at a meeting of the A.I.E.E. on October 24th, 1906.
