Description |
This is the third tube made by H. W. McCandless and Company for the de Forest Radio Telephone and Telegraph company. It had a tubular (T8 - 25 mm diameter) bulb and was single ended. It was fitted with an E12 Edison screw base for the carbon filament. It had two platinum "wings" (or plates) connected in parallel (as in the Audion_02-electrostatic tube) but operated with an electromagnet consisting of a wire wound around the bulb externally so as to create a magnetic field to act on the space current within the bulb. A patent was also applied for and granted on this tube. de Forest presented this tube (and the electrostatic one) in a paper he read at a meeting of the A.I.E.E. on October 24th, 1906.
