Description This tube was a commercially manufactured type and was the sixth tube made by H. W. McCandless & Co for de Forest. It had a tubular T8 (one inch - 25 mm diameter. It had an E12 base for the filament and the anode and grid were brought out at the top end as wires and these were embedded in a black moulded "cap" which helped protect the two exposed lead-in wires for the anode and grid.. The photo on page 65 of Tyne's "Saga of the vacuum Tube" appears to show three wires in the filament press, giving the impression that it had two filaments. This particular tube type was used in a number of radiotelephone sets made for the US Navy . More than 20 ships were equipped with this apparatus in 1907-08.
