Descripción Several of these tubes exist in a collection in the US but no details have been located as to when they were made. The tube has a Bakelite cap over the top wire connections and this is for protection of the exhaust tip and top leading-in wires for the anode and grid. It is assumed that it was made by H. W. McCandless & Co and that it is a very late product. McCandless sold his business to the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Co in 1915. As Westinghouse was not interested in the tube making plant and de Forest was by now making his own tubes, it is possible he acquired the old McCandless tube making inventory. It could well be that this tube was made by de Forest, however Tyne's book "Saga of the Vacuum Tube", illustration 7-10, page 119, shows a spherical Audion tube made late in 1915/early 1916 which does not have the Bakelite cap.
