Description |
Echelon strapped 8-segment magnetron operating in S-band. It was developed jointly by Sayers and by the BTH group leaded by L. Rushford and R. Latham. Peak out power was about 40KW, four times the power returned by CV38, with 13KV, 10A pulses. The power was substantially limited by the modulator tubes: when the CV85 trigatron became available, CV64 was operated at 160 KW input power. Similar devices were available shortly later from US manufacturers, such as the 706Y family.
Used in AI MkVIII and, from October 1942, in H2S.
The BM717 was approved as CV64.
