Description

S-band diode mixer, low burnout level; 2500 to 6000MHz. BTH and GEC known manufacturers during WWII.
Marked as CV101 or with a yellow dot.

The assembly, designed by T.H. Kinman at BTH, used a tiny tungsten cat's whisker, pressed on the silicon chip by a threated rod. The chip support and the rod were screwed to a ceramic short cylinder. When the position of the cat's whisker had been carefully adjusted for the maximum direct-to-reverse currents ratio, the rod was locked by a side screw and the ceramic capsule was filled with wax.

The same design was replicated in US by Western Electric and many other manufacturers, becoming an industry standard for many years.

Early BTH productions reported from April 1941.
