| Description |
CV16 was one of the first disc sealed triodes, intended to operate as low-noise RF amplifier at frequencies up to about 200MHz. It was developed, as S25A, by Foster and Smith at receiver group of STC Ilminster. First production in early 1941.
Flying leads to heater; rectangular section cathode, only the upper surface being coated. Grid wire, 0.05 mm diameter, 0.165 mm pitch, wound on two parallel rods ending in spring contacts seated on the grid disc. Anode to grid clearance in the order of 0.6 mm.
6.5 mA/V at 6.5 mA anode current, gain 100.
Even if the electrode structure was still crude, taking advantage from mature techniques used for other tubes, this tube was the forerunner of all the UHF 'rocket' types appeared soon later.
