Description |
The first strapped 8-cavity magnetron. It was introduced around the end of 1941 after that Sayer devised the use of strapping to prevent mode jumping. The design was developed at GEC by W.E. Willshaw, A.G. Stainsby and E. Kettenwell, adding strapping jumpers to the NT98 resonating anode block.
Used in the Type 271Q Naval radar, it gave 80 to 100 KW in S-band, at 15KV, 15A peak anode pulses, with an efficiency of about 40%.
No suffix CV56 can be considered quite rare, since very soon it was replaced by its four frequency selections, adding a letter A to D to the code.
