| Description |
While acting as consulting engineer for the Baker Smith Co of San Francisco in 1926, Henry K Huppert designed a major variation of the UX201A tube. (Huppert had worked earlier in the 1920's for the A-P Radio Laboratories, where he designed the2 in 1 and solenoid tubes). The tube was not given a type number but simply known as a detector. The element structure differed from the standard tube in that there were two straight wire filaments connected in series and mounted vertically to the base and each was contained in its own tubular shaped grid. The tube was claimed to have a very low inter-element capacity. The tube was described in Radio News, July 1926 but no examples have so far been located. No patent has been found. The tube was not mentioned in Tyne's "Saga of the Vacuum Tube". No information has been located to say if Baker Smith made any of these tubes, however they were well known for their range of Sylfan tubes.
