EE: An ad November 30th 1934 in "Radio & Electrical Merchant" Australia shows a battery console model 46 Challenger with KF2, 1C6, KF2, KBC1, B217 and B240. It is not unlikely that this model could not be delivered until the tube was on market in 1935. Many months before the official market introduction, some manufacturers get pre series examples to build circuits with them ...

Hello,
I notice that this valve is listed as being available from March 1936. However, I have an article from "Radio & Electrical Merchant" (Australia) dated 30/11/34 that mentions this valve. Please refer to the attachment. Any comments?
Regards,
Stuart Irwin Allegati

Dear Stuart
Great find! You are by far the most active member in Australia and your colleagues can be thankful that you have done so much for an Australian radio catalog. Congratulations!
I have made corrections for the tube (valve) but I'm not sure if it is the same base and base connections as here in Europe? Have you any idea how we can find out?
It is naturally possible that the set could not be sold until March 1935 but circuit and chassis could have been made by using the usual pre-series tubes received ... Or that Australia was then the test market for that.

Dear Ernst,
Thank you very much for your kind comments. The KBC1 was available only with the P base in Australia. The other European valves used in this radio were available with USA type bases in Australia but I can't say with absolute certainty that the ones included in the model 46 are so fitted.
Some European P base valves were manufactured in Australia by Philips with octal bases fitted but these didn't come out until the late 1930s. They had a "G" suffix added; eg. KL4G.
Regards,
Stuart
