Description |
According to Bowen, early VHF/UHF airborne radar transmitters were built around the WE 316A doorknob triode. Standard WE production was readily outdated when GEC introduced micropup triodes with oxide-coated cathodes, capable of very high current emission in pulsed operation.
This experimental sample, likely made by STC, has electrodes and bulb shape similar to other doorknob, but instead of using tungsten filamentary cathode it uses an oxide-coated, indirectly heated cathode cylinder.
No production reported, indeed in 1940 the dooknobs were included in a blacklist for future designs.
