Description |
This was a special 201A type tube made by Perryman to demonstrate the new patented ceramic "Perryman Bridge". The tube had an isolantite UV base and clear glass. the magazine "Talking Machine World" advertised the tube (December 15th, 1925) with this paragraph: "This clear glass tube clearly shows the two bridges which hold the filament, plate and grid in perfectly parallel alignment, at a distance of greatest efficiency and prevent the displacement of these elements through shocks or jars. You can also see the fine spring that holds the filament in proper place and allows for natural expansion and contraction with changing heat conditions. Get one of these demonstrating tubes from your distributor or write us direct. It will help you sell many tubes."
The bridge was patented in 1925 and given patent no 1589483. This apparently was on June 22nd, 1925 but access to a copy of the patent has not been possible. Over the following years until 1929 the bridge was used on a number of Perryman tubes. Ten tubes are listed in the advertisement in "Radio", November 1929, page 61, using the bridge.
