Description |
Lightning arrester tube used mainly in telephony. Also used in antenna circuits of radio installations to a limited extent. The three elements are carbon blocks, probably graphite. Each is connected to the base in the following way: 1) to the brass base shell; 2) to a brass ring in the porcelain insulation and 3) to a short female 7 mm threaded tube in the porcelain and concentric with the ring. The actual base style can be traced back to the early 1880's where it was used by the Thomson Houston Electric Company on light bulbs, to not infringe on the Edison Electric Lamp Company's screw base.
