Description |
The correct name for thia tube is "Valve Amplifying, No 1 and it was designed by BTH in conjunction with the British Post Office. The first design was developed in 1918 and the valve had the connections on the base exposed. The base was designated PO.1. and was 52 mm diameter. The anode voltage was 220 - 250 and because of this, the connecting lug on the base was painted red as a warning of "high voltage". The first valves had a fine spiral tungsten filament, grid of spiral tungsten wire and anode was also of tungsten wire but in a helix form.
