the VT-127 radar tube was made by Eimac in the very late 1930's. It is not generally branded with the company name or type number. The glass used in the "press" was uranium, as was the glass for the lead-in wires for the two anodes and two grids. These all glow green under ultra violet light. Another feature of this early radar tube is that the grid and finned anode were made of platinum. Few have survived because after World War Two most of the tubes were destroyed to reclaim the platinum. It was a VHF triode dissipating 100 watts.
Developed from 1937 for use in the transmitter section of SCR-268 radar. Sixteen tubes in a ring oscillator generated 75 kW pulses at 208 MHz.
Also manufactured by Heinz & Kaufman, Sylvania, Westinghouse and ICE.
The very early samples were fitted with a 4-pin metal UX base, as shown in the collection of Norman Wilson N6JV.
