Description |
Apparently a complete 199 bulb in a bigger glass envelope on a UX side pin base.
That allows to run a radio with UV/UX (bayonet) sockets alternatively on a 3 Volt A-battery. That draws much less current than with another alternative, the WX12 (which draws 0.25 A = 0.375 W from the 1.5 V battery while the 199 consumes 60 mA from 3 V = 0.180 W). Early energy saving!
Outer envelope factory stamped (acid edged): WX199, Canadian Westinghouse..
Label notes that it was selected for/by DeForest-Crosley.
