Thank you for 25 years of the Radiomuseum Foundation Lucerne!

We owe another successful year for the Radiomuseum to our members. Our database has grown in all dimensions, making us the most comprehensive and organized collection in our field.

25 years ago (on December 28, 1999), Ernst Erb founded the Radiomuseum Foundation Lucerne, the organization behind Radiomuseum.org. In addition to possessing the largest collection of vintage radio devices from the 1920s in Switzerland, he invested a great deal of capital and energy into building our portal. We owe him the vision and concepts for this uniquely interconnected information collection and the foundation of our organization.

The short TED Talk by Derek Sivers, "How to start a Movement," is for me a beautiful description of what makes Radiomuseum.org successful. Ernst boldly took the first steps and paved the way. We, the members, "followed" him and made Radiomuseum.org what it is today: by far the most comprehensive, collaborative information platform on the history of radio technology.

There is still much to be done, and it will never be complete. Step by step, we will create a more comprehensive work and continue to evolve. We have achieved this in 2024 as well. True to the motto, "If you really care about starting a movement, have the courage to follow and show others how to follow. And when you find a lone nut doing something great, have the guts to be the first one to stand up and join in," we are constantly looking for new "lone nuts" and "followers."

Special changes in 2024

• Cohiradia, under the leadership of Hermann Scharfetter, has continued to grow. There are now more than 84 recordings available. Hermann has also created new introductory videos in German and English and enabled the creation of synthetic AM bands.
• Members have increasingly completed manufacturer information. In total, there have been more than 5,300 changes. More than 60% of them come from Otmar Jung and Gary Cowans.

Email-Support

Thanks to a very active team (Dave Erali, Jerry Erlaton, Gerald Lippert, Heribert Jung, Miguel Bravo, Patrice Zeissloff, Alessandro De Poi, ...), the numerous emails from members and guests could be answered.

Most active Model Administrators in 2024

Every new model and every change is reviewed and approved by model administrators. The following model admins were the most active.

 

52'379 new Model Images

Over the year, 52,379 new model images were uploaded. The following members were particularly active in this effort. All model images are reviewed by image administrators. More than 95% of the images were approved by Heiko zur Mühle (75%) and Karlheinz Gützlaff (21%).

 

40'678 new Schematics

In 2024, a total of 40,678 new schematics were uploaded. Nearly two-thirds of these schematics were contributed by Dirk Taekels (49%) and Adrian Riesen (16%). The following list highlights the most active schematic uploaders. 

In 2024, more than 198,716 schematics were provided free of charge to guests. Members downloaded over 230,000 schematics. Altogether, our collection consists of more than 1,079,000 schematics.

3200 new Model Prices

In 2024, a similar number of prices were entered as in 2023. However, we have seen a significant decline compared to 2022 (30%) and 2021 (50%). Who will help upload more collector prices?

In 2024, we welcomed 683 new members. Over the course of the year, 6,932 different members from 74 different countries registered. Both numbers are slightly lower compared to the previous year.
