Hello everybody,

I have a radio-pickup named "APEL" type "657" with 4 tuningbands:

GO (long waves), PO (broadcast), OC (short waves), BE-FM (?).

The previous owner made some attempts to repare it but they were abandoned and some pieces remained desoldered, so i couldn't test it. After some repairs of myself, the PO worked again but with problems in GO and OC due to a lack of info were some pieces had to be attached.

Following valves are in the radio:

ECH81, EF85, EABC80, EL84, EZ80.

No FM dedicated valve, no FM tuning capacitor or module, nor any means of tuning other than AM attached to the tuning knob.

The BE-FM scale has the numbers 47,48,49,50,51 below a linear scale from 0 to 180. Maybe a 49m band stretch ? Still the title BE-FM confuses me.

Anyone has an idea ?

thanks

Hello Dirk,

As you told, there are no any FM related parts into this radio, I think FM is only an option by special order, otherwise the radio is only equipped with a stretched 49m band, which is expressed by BE, which means “Bande Etalée", the French term for a spredband range. The numbers at the BE-FM scale indicating a wave range 47 to 51m, i.e. the well known 49 m band.

Regards, Jacob
