Question.. My Blaupunkt Riviera 2540 has a problem with the FM section. I get no FM sound. AM and SW are OK.I purchased a new (used) ECC85 (6AQ8) to replace the one in the FM tuner. New tube was inserted and nothing changed. I checked the ECC85 and found that pins 1 and 6 were connected on this replacement tube. That was not suppose to be the case.Pins 4 and 5 are also connected and that is OK ( Filaments). It looks like the ECC85 that I got was NOT an ECC85. Pins 1 and 6 ( both Plates) are not suppose to be connected inside the tube. Question is .. what did inserting this "faulty" tube do to the radio? Did that short cause something to burn out, if so, where should I start to look.

ThanksCharlie

It might be a single triode like EC8010

In any case shorting the two anode pins won't do the radio any harm in this case. Check what other pins are short. Use DMM on 200 Ohms range. A dual triode has two structures visible in the glass. Use the Tube search to identify the tube if you like by trying ("Starts with") EC8 and also ECC8 to see pin connections and appearance.

You might have a faulty ECC85 or something else entirely. The series resistors on the Anodes of the ECC85 between HT and coils are likely more than 4.7K so damage is unlikely.
