Hello All:

I recently picked up the US version of this Nordmende model 0/614.  It has a few of the usual ERO paper caps but it also has a number of caps, white Neokon caps, that I haven't seen before.  Are these paper caps in disguise that should be replaced or are they reliable?

The set also has a couple of Mallory caps. Are they considered reliable?

Thank you,

Mark

Hello Mark,

the white Neokon caps are ordinary paper caps, only covered with plastic - you should remove them all, they are normally all bad.

That is what I suspected.  Thank you.

Are the Mallory caps suspect?

"Mallory" is the manufacturer - i think it is not possible to say, they are all bad or not - if your Mallory caps are paper caps, you should change them all. Newer ones are plastic caps, they have normally no problems. Sometimes the paper caps are covered with plastic like the Neokon, then better remove them. (for example you can find them in US-Jukeboxes from Rock-Ola or Seeburg from the 50´s and 60´s). If you are not sure, you should check them with a capacity meter. Bad caps do absorb moisture, so you can read much bigger values than printed on the cap (hope, my english was not too bad...)

Thank you Michael.  I understand and your English is perfect.

The Mallory caps are not obiously paper caps, but, like the Neokons, could be.  Attached is a photo of one of the Mallory caps in the set.  There are only 3 in the set so they are easy enough to replace if it makes sense to.

Thanks again for your help.

Mark
