The loudspeaker is amazing. It appears to be a balanced armature type (1500 Ohm) and has an adjustment knob on the rear. (I have another 1928 set, a National Portable which is similar) The cone is rigid paper and supported in four rubber grommets at 90 degrees on the front of case.
Most of the circumference of the cone is free-standing. Despite its crudity the set sounds quite good.
Interestingly, the speaker in the Rotax set is a horn type, driven by a transformer.
The set appears in the Wireless World Buyers' Guide 1927-28 and is priced at £32 10s. That was three times the price of a normal set. The set's dimensions correspond to those in the guide apart from the depth which is quoted as 20". The set actually measures 31" high (79cm) 29" wide (54cm) and 21" deep (53cm).
