Dear colleagues,
My 1931 Australian Healing Radiogram has a Paillard pick-up very similar to the Model F.
I am not sure if the internals are correct as I cannot get a usable signal output from it.
1. The armature with the stylus is just floating in space between the pole pieces. No sign of any suspension.
2. The coil looks new, so I am not sure if the windings are the correct gauge. It measures 1700 ohms.
Hopefully, a colleague may know if there are parts missing.
Any help would be most appreciated.
Best Regards,
Gary

Hello Gary,
I'm attaching 2 pics of the pick-up system components of my TELEFUNKEN ARCOFAR T1000:

The needle-holder (in German 'Schwinganker' = oscillating anchor) has a flattened upper section.
This flattened upper part is held in position by 2 rubber plugs. Worm screws on either side of the rubber plugs allow adjusting the side - orientation of the needle - holder.
The lower part of the needle holder has 2 side stems carrying rubber sleeves, the diameter of which correspond closely to those of the old fashioned bicycle valve rubbers. The rubber sleeves are held in place by adjustable clamps.
I took two of your pictures and added the missing rubber parts (marked in red), needed to hold the needle - holder in precise symmetrical position.
Since I've ever seen a Paillard PU - systen, this is only guided guesswork. Maybe I'm wrong.
Best regards,
Harald

Hi Harald,
Thanks for your input.
I looked very closely at the slots in the pole pieces where the flat upper section passes and can see the remnants of what looks like fibre shims. I think I can reproduce these, and this would centre the upper section of the needle holder.
For the bottom section that passes through the housing, I will push a small piece of rubber tube over it, and this should centre the assembly and allow the needle to move from side to side slightly.
I remember from my youth that bicycle valve rubber may be suitable.
Hopefully this will work.
Thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction,
Gary
