Hello All Friends of Radio. In my recent project, a Blaupunkt 4W649, there was a lot of troubles and joy too. I saw immediately when acquired the set that it had been tampered with. As usually with all German radios, this set is made with good precision and quality and I realized that it would be an easy task. After several replacements and tests with signal generator and oscilloscope, I couldn't get it working satisfactorily. I started over again but no improvement in the reception. Well, I didn't loose my night sleep but early in the morning when I started the set again, it worked as any set usually do. This was of course confusing since I didn't know where to start again. The reception when in bad "mood", when scanning the scale I heard strong hisses and beeps here and there, but in between I could hear some weak stations too, in all bands Yes, all stories have a happy end. I discovered that when my computer is on, which is very close to my workbench, it will generate a lot of disturbing frequencies (especially the chopper) that my old beauty can’t cope with. So when the computer is closed I’ll receive stations loud and clear (QSA5). This time the culprit was my own computer but I think nowadays there are a lot more disturbing elements harming when working with these old gadgets. That’s all Regards Lars-G.
