The Echophones of the 1940 era were made by Hallicrafters who acquired the Echophone Co.
The EC-3 is an 8-tube receiver, 3 bands, covering 550 kc to 30 Mcs with electrical bandspread. There are four selectivity options, Broad and Narrow IF and Broad and Narrow Crystal. It is a transformerless design, i.e. HOT chassis.
One unique feature of the set is that it has a built-in keying monitor to allow one to monitor his sending during transmit.
Sensitivity and selectivity are fairly good with one tuned RF and 2 IF amp stages. Dial tracking and calibration is rather poor.
