ekco: Ekco U245 ;

Hi Folks,

I purchased an Ekco U 245 completely dismantled and I would like help to identify

which valves go in which holders.

The valves are as follows - UL41. UY 41. UCH 42. UF 41. UBC 41.

Any help with project would very much appreciated.

looking at the picture from the back of the radio in the model page and starting from the left, the tubes are exactly in the order listed in the same page: UCH42 UF41 UBC41 UL41 and UY41.

please insert the 5 valves in their logical order from left to right:

UCH41 - UF41 - UBC41 - UL41 - UY41

Hello John,

The U245 is a simple little set to restore, but be aware that all its paper wax capacitors will be leaky and should be replaced, particularly the one across the mains and the audio coupling capacitor. Before you switch it on you can disconnect the one attached to the mains, it's the large wax capacitor on the top of the chassis - the set will still work OK.  This particular old capacitor can short and blow the fuse, and may even damage the on/off switch contacts. Don't forget that this is an AC/DC set, once switched on check that the chassis isn't live. If it is, you could get a nasty electric shock, just reverse the wires to the mains plug and that will correct it, and fit at highest a 3 amp mains fuse.

If you haven't already done so you should get a copy of Trader Service sheet 1309 for this model, it's a good manual. A copy will be uploaded shortly onto the U245 model page so you can print it off.
