Could the tenth tube be for the pre-amp for the magnetic cartridge? Some kind of extra amplification must be needed if not the changer itself has ha preamp.

More likely it's for mains rectifier instead of Metal/selenium type. Or exceptionally but not unheard of a separate pair for triodes (EC90?) instead of ECC85 VHF head

Was it common for Grundig to use a tube instead of a rectifier of Metal/selenium type?
I have a grundig radiogram 8085 and its chassie has been prepared for an extra tube. I think the same chassie was used for the 10 tube models like this or this.
What about the preamp tube for the magnetic cartridge, was it in the changer (and therefore not counted)?

Not in Europe
Grundig was using MR etc almost universally. I never heard of any post WWII Grundig with a valve rectifier in Europe.
