hello !

2 or 3 years ago , when starting my meubles collection , I used to consult a web site named " kubamuseum " , but not same the to day's one .

It was a complete catalog of all kuba meubles , organized in pages showing models with photos ( dominante - arabella - etc , etc ), looking like radiomuseum gallery  , by year , and when ticking a model , appeared the photo and caratéristics .

In fact it was the catalog of all kuba models  !

This web site deasappeared 3 years ago and has beeen replaced with the present one which, unfortunalely , do not give the same utility .

I wrote to the present kuba one , asking question about this desappeared site which was very useful , but remain for the moment without any answer ..

Has somebody some knowledge of this desappeared site and what occured .

thanks for answer

cordially

claude

Hello Claude.

do you speak about this Kuba museum?  It is a real Museum with opening hours. On our page in Museumsfinder you find the link to the museums homepage. An RM-Member will visit the museum soon and upload pictures to our side.

The old Kubamuseum web site was a database, as you write. Mabe they changed the name. Did you search for it?  The database in RM shows 696 Kuba models. I hope it gives you all needed infos about Kuba meubles you need.

cordially Heribert

hello Héribert

How are you since a so long time ???

Thanks for replying my question .

The present " kuba museum " is this one ( see below )

www      kuba-museum    .   de

It shows many pretty models , but is not in fact , the former data base I spoke about , same link , and which disappeared about  3 years ago .

At that time , when I tried to connect to the database , same link  labelled " kubamuseum " , we were redirected to the present one .

Unfortunately , I didnt think to capture the data base before it disappeared .

But sure this data base is still existing somewhere in a computer in Germany . But whom  is the owner or the holder of this data base ??? that is the question .

The photos were couloured pictures  of a catalog , ranged by model ans years ( ie : season 56/57), but in very good définition and quality .

It was an exhausting data base of all models of Kuba meubles .

cordially

Claude

Bonjour Claude,
there is one possibility to use the "Wayback Machine", search this in Google or use the link.

On that website, you can anter the name of the site (which will not be accepted from our editing software, sorry) and it pops up with a list of automatic mirrors of the site.

I had a look at it, on the current website, they state, that their website was renewed in 2010, so I went further back. You find the website, but in the captures, I did look at, it is fragmentary, only. They used graphic buttons and most images have not been scanned. Maybe, you find them in an older capture. As far as I could see, the text with german language descriptions is there.

Maybe, the owners of the current website will respond one day to your request. Maybe mentionning rm.org is not the best idea, as they have taken over the collection of Mr. Etzold who had some problems with our team and was acting widely on the internet against rm.org - this might be the reason that the dorr was not opened.

Salutations cordiales Martin

Hello everybody

I have got direct answer from Kuba Museum telling me that the old data base was lost in a crash computer two years ago ... What a pity ..

I cannot believe that no any backup of the file was made , or not any copy exist in some computer somewhere ....

Dear Claude, yes, it's unbelievable - not taking care of a backup of the information.
As the Website has been on a server, and it was probably not their own, but a webspace provider company, the provider does regular backups and they could deliver data back to the owner of the site. But now, the time is probably over, the backups have probably been overwritten with newer content.

The content, the "wayback machine" can handle depends from programming of the website - I did check my personal website which is almost completely hand "coded", no big images, no Java or too complicated Java Script actions - it is completely there in different stages of development.

With the kuba site with their graphical layout, most of the buttons are missing in the backups and you don't see anything as they didn't implement a text which will appear if the button graphic is not available. Also there are only few images available, maybe because of size or because pages have been created dynamically.

With radiomuseum.org, we have dynamically created pages, which will not appear in "wackback machine" and static (the ones visible for guests), the appear more or less - I have not checked all. So it's good that Ernst Erb has backups of the database content, I think even one with a rm.org member in the USA.

For the small personal websites which can give excellent and accurate informations on very definite small fields of interest, it's a good thing using standard html, so the pages can easily be referenced by the archiving software of "wayback machine", I think, this will not work with dynamic pages from content management systems.

Salutations cordiales Martin

p.s. I do backups from my site from time to time, my provider does mirror the website every night (I even have a few gigabyte webspace, I can upload data to keep which will be backed up automatically by him, and I go and buy an external harddisk drive every year on copy everything on this, and just unplug the old one and keep ist as backup.

I have made working static copies of aribtary dynamic websites not needing a login using "wget" with recursive flags.

It's an application for Linux and Windows. I've especially used it on some sites where I know they are unreliable at backups or some I knew that would be deleted (e.g. Some Geocities sites I was interested in).

I suppose Google might be big enough to make a "backup" of the entire internet. the Internet Archive (wayback machine) is limited on storage and web crawlers.

I suppose we can hope that someone did make a private copy of the old Kuba site. It's technically possible.

Hello Michael

Yes indeed , I suppose and hope so

When I used to consult this database , I was able also to make a backup copy , but it was so easy and rapid to connect to the web site , unfortunately  I never thougt at that time to make one .

As I never thought also  to make copy of " radiomuseum site " , nor " tube data " site of Frank .

Must we do it ???

A french fellow , yesterday,  sent to me some catalog pages of Kuba meubles for years 1957-58-59 , under jpeg files .

I have gathered them , by year , under .pdf , using the free software " pdfcreator " ...

They are available of course if someone needs !
