LEWA as a brand?
LEWA as a brand?
According to "Annexes au Moniteur Belge de 1931, premier Trimestre. Recueil spécial des aktes, extraits d’aktes, proces-verbaux et documents relatifs aux sociétés commerciales, imprimerie du Moniteur Belge, Bruxelles, akte 161, pp. 123-125" which I can only relate to as a tertiary source, Radio Lewa was founded by
- Philip Van Leeuwen (Singel 395, Amsterdam)
- Jeanette Nykerk (Singel 395, Amsterdam)
- Franz Wittkamp (Rue du Boulet 24, Brussels)
- Franziska Wittkamp((Ehrenfeldgürtel 161, Cologne)
- Abraham Nykerk (Sarpathiark 79, Amsterdam)
- Mozes Nykerk (Weesperstraat 38, Amsterdam) and
- Isodore Van Leeuwen (Haarlemmerstraat 92, Amsterdam)
on the 18th of December, 1930.
I will link Radio-Lewa to Philip van Leeuwen here, but would also appreciate if someone with access to the "Opkomst van de Nederlandse Radio-Industrie" by Frans J.J. Driesens could look into the LEWA brand reference that we state on the maker information.
Thanks!

Lewaphone is the brand name of Lewa radio
Lewa Radio is not a brand name, but the name of a radio manufacturer in Belgium, founded in 1930. According to advertisements in the Belgian magazine "La Radio-Industrie" of 1932, Lewa Radio used the brand name Lewaphone. The founding of the company was annonced in the same magazine in February 1931 (see below).

Lewa Radio is not described in the book "De opkomst van de Nederlandse Radio-Industrie", as this book only covers the radio industry in The Netherlands and not Belgium.

For the time being
Dear Gidi,
thank you for the update on this rather old question. For the time being it seems unclear how LEWA came into connection with Ph. van Leeuwen, other than him being a shareholder of the later LEWA radio company.

Mark
