Having just purchased a 1954/55 Loewe-Opta Meteor Plastik, type 558W which has the side facing speakers, the seller indicates she believes the dial is made of Plexiglass (or plastic). I told her that I believed the nomenclature "Plastik" referred to the quality and number of speakers, and how the sound is dispersed - like the Grundig "3D-models", and not to the material of the skalenscheibe!

The reason I ask is to hopefully avoid breakage during shipment. I have advised her to inform the packing office that the radio has a "glass dial".

Could a Loewe Opta collector kindly advise me before Monday morning. Additionally, is there a Funkschau data sheet that relates to the V. Br and KW-Lupe features on this model??

mfG,
Robert Sarbell

NOTE:
I owe an apology and a special Thank You to Herr Holger Pflug for a large part of the explanation regarding the "Plastik" nomenclature on the rear panel. He has clarified and confirmed my doubts. See forum item Hellas 542W im RM?

I mean, Loewe wants to say, the sound is plastic or the radio is like a sculpture.
The german word "Plastik" means also "sculpture"

Herr Wolfgang Bauer,

I have a German to English dictionary, sir. I was asking primarily for a simple answer to whether the radio has a glass dial. . . . . .and one or two other items. I was hoping one of the collectors who has the identical radio may have been reading the forums this weekend.

Mit Freundlichen Grussen,
Robert

Good evening Robert,

yes, the Meteor has a really glass dial, so be careful. The set has also a simple shortwave finetuning. If this radio comes with a variable IF bandwith too, I cant look for this in the moment, because I have this set not here in my 2nd - weekend- location, sorry.

Best regards

Eilert

Peculiar markings around the Tuning knob

Thank you so much, Eilert. . . .

One of the photos the seller displayed has a annular narrow ring that nearly encircles the tuning knob and has the graduations which appears to be 10 or 11 small arcs.

I had the distinct impression the dial would most likely be made of glass; but I was not positive.

I shall inform the seller to please be careful with the packing, because I know how difficult it was for Herr Michael John to locate a glass dial for my 5040W3D. And I am sp grateful for the assistance that the RMorg members have shown me.

If the radios is in operational condition, I should hope to be able to forward some additional photos for the database.

Respectfully,
Robert

Hi everybody,

An excellent site for anybody who wants to send a radio without getting damaged:

Best regards,

Omer

P.S. Maybe someone should link Phil's site to RMorg and even talk Phil into European radios!
