Hello Radio-friends ! My question is in regards to dim-bulb testing. In order to remove the chassis of this radio from the cabinet, I had to disconnect the plug-in connection leading to the loudspeakers from the chassis. Question: In order to do the dim bulb test is it required that the loudspeakers are connected to the chassis? Also, do all the tubes need to be in place for the test.? Since I am just in the beginning stages of this radio adventure any advise as to how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all. Peter Radolla Replies in german wecome too.

bulb test

Hi Peter,
you can keep the four EL84 power tubes pulled out of their sockets while testing bulbs. Always with the power tubes removed, you should perform a check of possible leakages through their grid coupling capacitors. With a high-impedance voltmeter, 1 Mohm or more, check the voltage on pin 2, control grid, of the four EL84s. You should read values non exceeding few tens of millivolts. If you read higher values on some grids, you must replace the corresponding coupling capacitors using polyester film types.
Mark the four tubes with a permanent marker, to place them back in the same order as they were.
