I have an A48 in my collection that was superbly restored by Trevor Joyes.  Given that it is a relatively ordinary 5 valve set the performance is excellent, particularly on the short wave band.  A good aerial makes it all the better.  The internally illuminated rotating station display drum is wonderful!

Hi Christian,
Your A46 also looks very good. As you probably know the two radios should perform as well as each other being of similar electrical design.  The only real difference was the fancy mechanical tuning assembly on the A48.  I have the console version of the A46 in the awaiting restoration queue.  It is in pretty good order so should turn out well when it is done.

I am afraid I am not clever enough to do the electrical work myself though I am slowly learning more.  Did you restore your A46?   If so well done!

There are a load more Murphys in the queue so I will add more photos and models in due course.

Best regards, John

Hi John,

Thank you for your answer. Yes, I restore my radios (carrier and electronic...). It's not so difficult. I did began 15 years ago from the scrap, with only a basic electrical and modern lelectronic knowledge...

At this time I had neither the schematic, nor a tube tester. This makes the battle more difficult :-). Given this,I had the chance to have a radio in a very good shape, with only two "big" concerns:

1) the output transformer was damaged. At this time I replaced it by an other (may by a french, what a heresy!!!). But last year a friend of mines could repair the original transformer...

2) the remaining trouble was a problem in the input stage, before the first tube. I didn't solve it and did connect directly the antenna at the first grid. This is reversible and I should take the time to repair it know (I feel more confident)

MURPHY's radio are nice design and good quality radios,

Christian
