philips: Phillips BD700A-22; Capella
? philips: Phillips BD700A-22; Capella
Greetings all,
I have recently purchased what I think is a Capella. The chassis shows BD700A (without 22 ). I am perplexed as this documentation calls for 15 tubes and my chassis has 14, with 1 less EB41 and some rearrangement of the FM discriminator section. All photos appear to be the same with the exception that I have no rear cover.
Is anyone aware of what this difference is due to? Western export or different model possibly? Any help is greatly appreciated as this is a beautifully designed set which deserves to be properly restored.
regards, Bill Liers

Philips BD700A
Hallo Bill,
I have created the new model ==> BD700A with 14 tubes.
Please upload your pictures up there.
Especially a picture of the nameplate is important.
The model with 15 tubes and the other knobs is the ==> Capella BD700A-22.

Wolfgang,
Thank you for your response. I will take photos as soon as the work is complete on the restoration. Do you have any reference or schematic info for this model?

Philips BD700A
Hallo Bill,
thank you for your pictutes.
This is not the original FM discriminator.
Maybe the coil cup is from the ==> BD522A but not from this model.
There are two different screws and many more. Modern resistors and capacitors (I do not mean the yellow) are installed. This all is not original.
Now you must find the two germanium-diodes must be present instead of the EB41.
It is possible that have been accommodated in the coil cup.

Phillips BD700A modified
Wolfgang,
Thank you very much for your investigation. I was also wondering how much of this section was original. I will re-create the schematic and see if the comparable circuit can be found. I am sure that I will not be able to find the original parts easily and since the radio has good sound, It may stay this way for the time being.

Phillips BD700A modified
Wolfgang,
You have sharp eyes indeed. It is apparent now that the detector from the BD522A has been installed and the radio now uses only one EB41 as in the 522. The reasoning behind making such a modification is not easy to see unless such a parts chassis was the only thing available to the previous owner. The AVC circuit was never completed, but at least I have the diagrams and will attempt to functionally merge the circuits.
