I have a Scott SLR-F that works perfectly, but the front panel power switch does not actually power the unit off. The switch works properly (open when off, etc.) but has no effect. Is there a setting that affects this, or do I need to look elsewhere for a solution?

Best,

Richard Joltes

I have a Scott SLR-12-B. As I recall, the switch took a lot of contact cleaner to work right. It is a great radio.

Hi Richard,

I used to own an SLR-F, which I had restored. If your unit hasn't been modified (like many others), the front panel power switch should in fact turn the unit off. If it doesn't, and it's not stuck (as you said it will open and close), check the wiring in the power circuit. Maybe someone has indeed modded the circuit.

There should be a 2Amp fuse in either leg of the power line, and a dual condenser to ground just before the power transformer. I'll attach an excerpt of the schematic. Please check if the wiring is exactly as it should be.

Yours,

Nikolaus

Thanks for the tip, Nikolaus. I do know the switch makes and breaks properly (tested via continuity, at least) but am not sure if the set was altered by anyone else. I'll have a look tonight. Cheers!
