remler-co: Infradyne Amplifier
Fellow Radiophiles:
Grote Reber measured the Infradyne and came up some amazing results that he published in July of 1959. The single gain/bandwidth control capacitor gives an extremely flat bandwidth of 88kHz with 11dB of gain, and a very narrow 600Hz with a gain of 47.2dB.
The very flat bandpass that is possible with the Infradyne at moderate gains would make this an ideal first IF amplifier in a double conversion superhet design. This way the LO only needs to be aligned precisely to the second LO/IF frequencies.
Aiming the first LO to pass the converted signal through a wideband Infradyne first IF becomes very easy with the Infradyne IF amp running at moderate gain.
The Infradyne is a very serious IF amplifier, indeed.
