Hello,

I am trying to restore a Grundig Majestic model 4085 (USA version).  The glass alreadt has a crack by the knob on the lower right.  I can get the knobs off, but how to you remove from case?  Do you pry the buttons off on the bottom before trying to slide chassis out?  Thanks.  This is the first radio I am rebuilding.

Hello Chip,

You must remove all screws at the bottom. The rubber-rings between wooden cabinet and metal chassis are most adhesive. You must lift the chassis with a big screw driver from wooden cabinet and then you can it take out from the back.

Thanks for the reply.  My problem turned out to be whomever had the radio before me used some really strong glue (JB Weld or PL400) and added glue to the bottom where each of the screws attached.  It took me a long time to figure that one out.  Appreciate the reply.

when someoen add glue to screws I need to remove

and they are too stuck for my screwdriver

I try not to brake the screwhead, I check if it is possible to heat the screw

without causing damage to nearby items, the heating methode and how much

must ofcourse be adjusted to fit the purpose, but it is amazing how much

glue just dont work when hot, we can take advantage from knowing this :-)

Whomever had this radio before me actually put glue on the frame around each screw, not just in the screw holes.  I had to butcher the bottom of the wood case to get it out.  Sigh...

At least no one will ever see the underside/bottom of the case.
