For newer versions, look here
you can download IrvanView for free from this url:
english language is always included. The file size is less than 1 MB.
IrvanView is a very simple und uncomplex software, but it contains enough features for schematic editing.
Scanning:
You have to place the original in straight direction, because IrfanView not offers the possibility to turn the document in fine steps.
The settings for scanning are:
8-Bit greyscale, 300 dpi
every action can be reversed by the Edit menu's Undo command
Crop the border:
To crop the border, use the left mouse button to outline the area (selection), click on the Edit menu, then Crop. The area outside the outline will be thrown away, only the inside will be left.
Sharpening and cleaning the background:
Click on the Image menu, then Enhance colors. A dialog appears with a slider controls. Move the setting up or down, for more or less brightness / contrast /gamma.
We want to get a white and clean background and good readable lines and terms.
Resizing:
In most cases, you can save filesize by reducing the image without loosing the readability.
Decreasing the greyscales:
Click on the Image menu, then select Decrease Color Depth. A dialog shows the possible color depths. Select custom – 6 colors. Please do not use: Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
The image is ready now to save. You choose png format with the default values
