dongguan-x: Sihuadon R-108 - 2020 version: Technical observations
Having acquired the Sihuadon R-108 version 2020 of the original Radiwow from 2018, I have dismantled it to check the hardware setup. This is what I could find so far. Updates and corrections are welcome.
The radio uses two main PCBs and two small socket holder PCBs.
The small PCBs are used to hold the Antenna and Earphones sockets.
The main PCBs are:
- The MAIN BOARD - Installed at the back cover, contains the Power Supply and the Analog/Digital Receiver sections.
- My unit came with the "R-108 DSP V06 MAIN BOARD 2019-03-18" assembly.
- Older Radiwow units may show other versions, like this one: "R-108 DSP V03 MAIN BOARD 2016-11-08"
- The KEY BOARD - Installed at the front cover, contains the Digital Management and Display sections.
- My unit came with the "R-108 DSP V04 KEY BOARD 2018-11-30" assembly.
- The two assemblies are joined in piggyback configuration using one single interconnect (JP1 male on the KEY BOARD PCB, JP2 female on the MAIN BOARD PCB).

Brief technical details (to be detailed at a later time)
In order to be able to offer Air Band on these R-108 models, XHDATA added dedicated chips for that RF band, where the SiLabs DSP Receiver chip covers the LW/MW/FM/SW bands. As a consequence, while soft muting is observed on the DSP covered bands, the Air band behaves like any other analog receiver with no soft muting at all.
