teleradio: Crystal Detector: Which brand?
teleradio: Crystal Detector: Which brand?
The question is if this set, found in Europe (Danmark), was made in the USA or in Europe.
For Europe I found a company Teleradio which seems to be founded after WWII.
But I found also an entry in
"The London Gazette", 23 December, 1941, page 7286, entry number 264, which reads: "IZZARD, Arthur Thomas (carrying on business as The Teleradio Company), of 157,
Fore Street, Edmonton, in the county of Middlesex. RADIO and WIRELESS SPECIALIST, now a Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force. Date of Order—Dec. 18, 1941. Court—EDMONTON.
No. of Matter—W.2767-"
This still does not answer the question why it shows "App." which is unuasual for a British name plate. On the other hand the socket of the coil is typically British - but also true for the USA products.
See this article (mainly in German, but see the pictures and also text in English). For coils, Edison-Bell (7) had a slightly other socket, but see for instance DeForest (10). As far as I know, in Germany (App. would be true for German), there were always two equal pins as show at least the first 4 photos. The same you would find in France, where you would also write "App. No".
Who knows more and sends us a contact form please?

App. = Apparatus
"Apparatus" is a common term in english language (worldwide), so "App.No." ("App." as abbreviation) means obviously "Apparatus Number", followed by type (or serial) number - as the badge seems to to be too small to carry "Apparatus No. " in full writing.
Unfortunately the "Search" eliminates the dot of "App.", so the result is totally blind.
Best Regards

Dear Georg
Thank you for your good input. You are perfectly right - it was "out of my brain" ...
Our member Alan Larsen. to whom I wrote, answered to me:
"I did some research on the Teleradio Crystal set. I am 100% convinced this wasn't a US made item even though the US Teleradio Company did make a crystal set. The headphone jacks on Knud's set are the dead give away as to not being a US set. I have never seen a US built early radio that used the European style of headphone plugs. I did update the US Teleradio Company with a few pictures of some of the models that were missing. Worthpoint had a Teleradio boxed crystal set in the archive but the picture was of a closed wood box. Not much help. The US Teleradio company had more of a lightning bolt incorporated into the company name as a logo. The set of Knud's does have a British look to it but it also should have a post office stamp on it if it was British. Of course this decal could have come off."
He also found a battery with the wording Teleradio, a grid bias battery and he added a few pictures to the US company. Alan is the most knowing member at RMorg for US radios and radio equipment from before 1926. His collection is outstanding. So is his knowledge about them!
I created a British brand Teleradio and added that grid leak battery - and moved this detector also to there, not believing that it is the same company, but to have a "good place" until we know more.
