Hello Radiofriends According to the AGA 1641 schematics, the mixer tube is a 65J8G, not a 6SJ8G. Would this be to some help? regards Lars-G.

Hello Lars-G,

the number 65 in the tube designation 65J8G appears to be wrong. It does not fit to this system, as it would suggest a heater voltage of 65 volts, which is very unlikely.

It rather seems to be a typing-error.

Try to find out more about the actual tube type of this radio.

Best Regards, Jacob

This is really strange !!
I took a look at other AGA models schematics that uses unknown tubes too.

Model 1642 has a "75J8G" in the converter position.
Model 1651 has the same "65J8G" and  a "1G33" as the "magic eye"

Both tubes 65J8G and 75J8G are very close to the 6J8G

Hello Dear Radiofriends. The Swedes produced their own tubes, called SER (Svenska ElektronRör). They also used their own designations on their tubes, like 6UG5G=magic eye in the AGA 1654 model. That's why I think the mixer tube 65J8G is perfectly correct designated. regards Lars-G.

The mixer valve in my AGA 1641 model indeed is a 6SJ8G "SER made in Sweden". On its socket there is a label with a number stamped on it which is identical to the number in the chassis. Therefore, the 6SJ8G is originally in this set.

Looking at the schematic of AGA 1641, indeed, rather 65J8G might be read. This is not correct, however.

Information about the 6SJ8G can be seen under http://www.akh.se/tubes/htm/6j8eg.htm

Best regards,

Dietmar
