Hello,
I own this nice cathedral radio (see attachments), which has got neither identification plate nor an engraved model number... But I'd like to know the manufacturer and the model name.
Does anyone know something about it?
It's a 4-tube TRF radio; tube list: 24 24 47 80 .
Sizes: 345 x 250 x 215 mm. Grill cloth is not original.
Thanks for your help! Attachments:

Hello Alessandro,

I'm going to have a stab at this being Emerson. My reasoning is something about the knobs! Bit vague I know but they look like knobs I have on an Emerson already.

If it were a name brand it would be marked.  And a licensed manufacturer would have attached a label saying so.  The fact that your chassis has neither, hints that it was made by someone who didn't want to be traced by RCA.

The two knobs placed above each other, the escutcheon around the dial opening and placement of the four screws in front point to a US made 1933 Crosley. Compare to model 156 at RMorg and the 154 pictured in "Antique Radios" by John Slusser.

Greetings Alessandro and all.

I recently stumbled across a Melorad radio with the same chassis (pictures below).  I notice the that the Caryl Model 4 by Century Radio Products and the Steinite by CRC also use this chassis.  Similar is the Mini-Cathedral by Jefferson Electric Mfg. Co.  Others that may use this chassis include the Climax 424 and the Century 4-47.

During the 1930s, Chicago was known for radio production plants that would produce just the radio chassis.  Small manufacturers would purchase the chassis for their own cabinet, so other manufacturers may use this chassis.  It appears that the transformer can be wired for different voltages, so perhaps this chassis was intended for export as well.

I'll have to do some more research on this chassis.

Best Regards,
Howard
