I have this model. It has a loud hum, suggesting I need to replace caps. However, I noticed someone replaced power amplification tube 3Q5GT (pentode)  with tube 1G4 (triode)... From what I can see they are not equivalent. Should I first try to find a 3Q5GT?

Hi Alain, you should definitely try to find a 3Q5GT or the european equivalent DL33. You could use the 1Q5GT but you would have to rewire the filament connections and worry about filament current.

That 1G4 is the wrong tube since that's not an outpput tube. Also do change electrolytics and see how that goes.

Hi Mario,

I finally got a 3Q5Gt last weekend. While I was waiting for the tube, I changed the filter capacitors.

And...no more hum! Crystal clear reception, although a bit weak.
