Checking the parts list on the original schematics of this Zenith, the cabinet material is listed as plastics and not bakelite as in the description from ID=68217. I have one of them and I am not an expert on differentiation between plastics and bakelite.Thanks. Alvaro.

Dear Alvano,

In America the name Bekelite is often used as a synonym for all kind of plastics, in particular when it comes to radio casings. Real Bakelite was used in the 1930s and 1940s. In the following years most casings consist of some kind of plastics. Bakelite is very brittle and heat resistance. Plastics are flexible and with limited heat resistance. Bakelite will resist a soldering pin, most of the plastics won't.

Thanks Rolf.

In fact, it looks like more plastics, is is not brittle, it is flexible.

Alvaro.
