- Notes
-
This radio is very large and heavy to be designated a "Portable Radio" but it has no provision for external mains power. The battery is the Eveready 2761 the case of which can be opened gently and a pack of 6 "C" cells inserted to make a convincing replica. A pack for 6 "C" cells was also available as a substitute for the 2761. There is provision for an external aerial and earth and for an external 9 Volt DC supply. The case is fitted with a substantial handle and there is an internal telescopic aerial which extends about 800 mm above the case. There is no flexible joint in that aerial. The internal ferrite rod antenna is only 190 mm long which is short for a radio of this size and weight.
The radio was available in Teak, Doeskin & Black vinyl over a rigid plastic former.
The band switching and tuning is on one circuit board and the IF and AF sections are on a separate board.
The speaker is an elliptical 6" x 4" but it is centre tapped with a total impedance of 80 Ohms. Replacement of a faulty unit could be problematic.
Using the schematic's terminology, the frequency bands are:
- MW 525 --- 1620 Kc/s
- SW1 1.6 --- 4.25 Mc/s
- SW2 4.0 --- 10.5 Mc/s
- SW3 10.0 --- 30.0 Mc/s
There is a comprehensive table of alignment instructions included in the manufacturers documentation and two different RF board layouts for different brands of Air Trimmers for the various RF bands are portrayed. See the uploaded schematic file.
Weight including batteries.
