The AMP MO Optoelectronic Receiver 269050-1 used a novel "Molded-Optronic" technology developed by AJ Heiney, C-L Jiang and WH Reysen at the Lytel Division of AMP Inc in 1993. The device incorporates an integrally molded lens/receptacle element that performs connector alignment, light coupling, and light-bending functions in one optomechanical component. This allowed the receivers to be built with fewer parts and lower labour costs than previous traditional AMP designs, while improving performance in some areas, such as effective capacitance and rise/fall time. The receivers were housed in a nickel plated diecast zinc 16-pin DIL package and were supplied with a process cap that seals the connector interface during the soldering and cleaning processes.
