  • Notes
  • The AMP MO Optoelectronic Transmitter 269051-1 used a novel "Molded-Optronic" technology developed by AJ Heiney, C-L Jiang and WH Reysen at the Lytel Division of AMP Inc in 1993. The device incorporates an integrally molded lens/receptacle element that performs connector alignment, light coupling, and light-bending functions in one optomechanical component. This allowed the transmitters to be built with fewer parts and lower labour costs than previous traditional AMP designs, while improving performance in some areas, such as effective capacitance and rise/fall time. The transmitters were housed in a nickel plated diecast zinc 16-pin DIL package and were supplied with a process cap that seals the connector interface during the soldering and cleaning processes. This 270 MBaud transmitter, an enhanced version of the 269049-1 200 MBaud transmitter, was developed primarily for 266 Mb/s Fibre Channel applications.
