The AMP Model 107059-6 Variable Optical Attenuator contains a specially processed fibre that can be adjusted to varying radii by the user. The attenuator is an uncalibrated device that can be used for optical power level setting. It is fitted with 3 mm diameter 1-metre long fibres with PC polished ST connectors. (Alternative 3-metre fibres, FC and SC connectors, and SPC, UPC and APC polish types were available, and the attenuator could also be supplied with 1.2-metre fibres without connectors). Cladding modes are well controlled and the attenuator is insensitive to polarization.
The attenuation is continuously adjustable by a screw that is positioned on a narrow face such that multiple attenuators can be stacked side by side.
Minimum attenuation < 2 dB
Maximum attenuation ≥ 40 dB
Unconnectorized reflectance ≤ -65 dB
ST/PC back reflection -45 dB
Operational wavelength 1250 to 1580 nm
Vibration resistance < 0.15 x attenuator setting
Operating temperature -40 to 75 ˚C
