  • This amplifier design uses the ultra-linear principle, described in the British Marconi datasheet for the N709 Vacuum tube. The ultra-linear circuit was invented by Alan Blumlein and patented in 1937.

    The N709 datasheet specifies performance to be 0.1% distortion at 10 Watts output.

    The audio is input via the octal socket connection to the preamplifier. This socket provides the pre-amplifier with connections to the power switch, 6.3 V for tube filaments, and HT/B+.
