This is an early wireless detector which uses a moving band of metal wire and permanent magnets. It is run by a clockwork mechanism which must be wound-up by the wireless operator to operate.
The Canadian Marconi Company Magnetic Detector was very similar if not a direct copy of the British Marconi Company "Maggie Detector."
