  • The Radio Rastus crystal set was made from painted plywood in the figure of a black cat with white facial outlines, white paws and tail tip. The face has 8 whiskers on either side of the face. The whiskers on the left contact a galena crystal held in the left paw. Detection takes place when the rear right leg is moved and one whisker contacts the crystal. The tail is moved to achieve tuning. It is mounted on a rectangular base with aerial, ground and phone terminals with a “Radio Rastus” plaque on the front. It was advertised.in March 1927 for Aus£ 1/9/6 complete with 2000Ω headphones, aerial wire, arrester and earth clip.

    It was advertised in the Radio Trader, October 14, 1926 and Eastern States newspapers from in 1926 and 1927 with most adverts appearing for JB Chandler in Queensland.
