It says "One Transistor" on the case beneath the dial. Possibly a transistor is used instead of a diode detector? Another hypothesis could be that the circuit uses two diodes without transistors as the picture seems to show.
This would be in agreement with "no power needed", but would not be in agreement with the wording on the case which could belong to a different model like DDK TR-101 which is very similar.
